Find your happy place - lots of techniques for boys

Totally inspired by a class I took with Natalie May at the FN workshop, we are going to experiment with mediums, Magicals, Lindy's Stamp gang sprays, Starlight paints and layering. All the colours are black and white with neutral browns and one accent colour, which you will choose to match your photo. Mine is bright green to match Joel's shirt.

We're layering lots of black and white scraps to create our background.

Have you tried out the Starlight paints yet? They look amazing on chipboard and right now Toni has every colour in stock!

They are not available anywhere else until the next expo comes around. If you ever wanted some, you need to get them now.

Image may contain: indoor

As usual, we meet for class on Monday at 9:30am, Tuesday at 10am and 6pm. You must book in for night classes. Please bring a 4x6" photo (any direction)

Let's scrap the men in our lives

Last Sunday was Father's Day, so let's do a manly layout in class! I used a photo of my Dad.

The new Barbershop collection from Kaisercraft is really beautiful with soft colours in blues, green, grey and charcoal black. It's nice and manly without being overly dark and dull. You'll see a bit more of it in the following weeks, as both Janet and I loved it!

There are so many nice details to fussy cut (bring some good scissors) and you will have a choice in which words or pictures you pick.

I went to town with lots of layers of these beautiful pastel shades, paired with some soft silver highlights.

Choose a 4x6" landscape photo that doesn't have very bright colours in it (or convert it to black & white) for the best results. You can also use vintage photos or anything handyman-related.

Class times are as always:
Monday (12/09) at 9:30am
Tuesday (13/09) at 10am & 6pm
at Scrappin' With Style @ TJ's
Cost is $25 and includes all materials

Kits will be available if you can't make it, but only if there's leftovers.

Imagine that!

So, as you all know, we have a puppy and lots of adorable puppy photos to scrap.

Next week we're using a trick or two to put lots of photos on a page, but adding a mini flip page. There you have eight 2x2" squares to fill with more photos or journalling. I cut 2 photos into squares (be careful not to cut through faces!) and one I cut small. It will depend on what photos you have.

Plus, another big photo hides underneath!

Lots of circles, masking and stamping give it an artsy feel.

So dig out your photos and join me in class next week.

Happiness is a selfie

Contrasts rock and it's time for a fun collage with colours dull & shiny and different textures!

We start with a neutral brown base, then add some black and a few splashes of bright colour. There is a rough, textured title that is painted in 2 metallic shades. And it doesn't have to be super neat.

Remember the crackle paint we used recently (see every little thing)? Let's use it differently this time, combined with metal paint to create this crackled star. I will pre-crackle them to save time.

You can choose any 2 of the following metal colours for your title and star:
copper, silver, red, pink, purple, blue and teal green.

Chipboard hearts look cool in stark black, it's not necessarily girly that way! The whole layout is easy to adapt to boy or girl photos, by the way.

If you want to join me, come to class on Monday (March 7) at 9:30am or Tuesday (March 8) at 10am and 6pm
All classes are held at TJ's Scrappin' With Style, 21 Mayes Ave, Logan Central
Cost is $25 and includes all materials. Please bring a 4x6" portrait photo (or two 3x4" landscape minis) and a black pen.

a lightbulb moment

It's time we scrapped the boys again and this time it's a kit class! This layout was designed by Janet, but I have adapted it a little to suit our papers.

You will receive everything you need and more - enough for a second layout (just add another background). Not only is there is a cool wire light bulb...
...but also 20 patterned 6x6" papers in your kit to choose from, so you can adjust the colours a little, depending on what suits your photo. The same goes for the tags and borders, there are plenty of choices. And while I have used a beach theme here and there, you don't have to.

All you will need to bring is 1 photo (4x6", either direction). You can also use 2 small photos instead. The cost of this class will be $26, which includes your kit.

Class times will be as usual:
Tue 10am
Thur 6pm
Fri 9:30am
at Scrapulous, 60 Bryants Rd, Shailer Park

Happy birthday using super busy, multi-coloured paper

When you look through your paper stash, do you have papers that have such busy patterns or are so brightly coloured that they drown out everything around them? Hence, they're still there in your stash, unused and forgotten? Well, here is your chance to put them to use!

We are going to mask, paint and mist them! That way you still get to enjoy the original colours without the huge impact.

Here you can see some of the original multi-coloured spotty paper peeping through:

My cute little nephew, he is adorable. And who wouldn't be on their 4th birthday!

So how about you dig out your birthday photos and join me for class next week and you'll even get a cute little wooden arrow! You can put any number from 1-99,999 on the flags (my apologies to the 100,000 year olds!)

Smile for the camera

If you have a lot of scraps, this is the perfect layout for you! It's next week's class:

This can suit boys, girls and anyone from age 0-100.

The diagonal look was inspired by a layout called "Cutest Barista" by Jessy Christopher.

Cool - scrapping a teen boy...with purple?!

Yes, you can so totally scrap a teen boy with purple! Team it with black, grey and blue and you might just escape the teen's outrage.

We are making this page in class next week (and you don't have to use purple). In fact, we're creating the whole background with lots of layered stamping and masking in different colours.

The perfect chance to scrap the boy or man in your life!

More scrapping in the Limelight

The awesome Limelight collection works really well with the chalkboard look that is so trendy now! Simply pair it with a black background and some white doodles, splashes and journaling for a great effect.

Kaisercraft Scrapbooking Papers

Use the Damask template and dab a finger/sponge with watermark ink over just one of the designs. Heat emboss it and splash some white mist or watered down gesso over the black cardstock.

Now embellish with strips of the Today paper...

... and a selection of die-cuts from the collectables pack.
Team it with a few green starburst buttons and some silver stars. These are puffy, metallic and oh-so-versatile. If you don't have them in your stash already, then go and get some! I love them.

You also really need some bike charms! Everyone needs a bike charm...

I still had a few bits left and made a couple of cards:

Kaisercraft Scrapbooking Papers

If you like the popular chalkboard look, but don't feel overly confident with chalkboard paint and chalk, don't despair - fake it till you make it!

Choose one of the many fabulous stencils from the templates, masks and stencils section (mine is the leaves template) and a black card. Tap a white Adirondack paint dabber on your cutting mat to make a little puddle of paint. Pick it up with a finger sponge or cosmetic sponge and dab over the leaf design. Once it's dry, outline it with a white gel pen.

After you have attached 2 of the tags from Dawn paper, continue the leaf design onto the tag as well. Add some spots with Liquid Pearls, a green mini gardenia, ribbon and a love key charm
Draw some white doodles around the edge of the card and you have faked it like a pro!

♥♥♥
The last few scraps were made into this card ...

together with yellow rosegilded mica fragments ...

Makes you wanna go fishing. There are some pretty cool fish charms available (click here), but I had used mine all up!

Pirate car wash

Pirate Car Wash!
by Geli

If that title doesn't make you curious, then nothing will!
It's Geli here and this is my crazy pirate hubby.

Boys Scrapbooking Layouts

For the background, I used the groovy Oil Change paper from the "Garage Days" range. So what if the paper says "Car wash"? I love to embrace randomness! Surely even a pirate has to wash his car sometime?
I spiced it up with some washi tape, which is a great and cheap way to add some extra patterns! I especially love the black and white ones, because it lets the colours underneath shine through. The chevron stamp also gives it some grunge. That stamp is one of my favourites for adding some shading.
My journalling is tucked under the photos and this is what it looks like pulled out: How cool is this clip-folder?

I put a little Inka Gold in platinum around the edges.
(Pssst: The original comes with a cool piece of stamped paper, but I messed up my writing and had to attach a new piece.)
The cluster features 2 of the tags from the Tyre Shop paper on a ball chain, a LOL charm and an embossed felt star

To do the black spots, I dotted on some 3D paint and gave the paper a hard tap from underneath to make it spread out a little. This works with Liquid Pearls too, though they won't spread out as far.
There is a bit of stitching and while I was sewing, I sewed on some arrow charms:

I think it looks great to include charms in a little hand-stitching.
I hope you like my pirate car wash and give it a try sometime!
