How to make a cursive title

These photos were taken in a photo booth a Joel's middle school graduation. The booth operator needed a sample and asked Leah and I if we wanted to be models. Of course we did! We had a lot of fun hamming it up.

I decided I wanted to scrap them for the White With 1 February challenge - celosia orange. I just love that colour.
(find the White With 1 challenge here)
I didn't have any paper in the right shade of orange and decided to do a watercolour background with Twinkling H2Os. They're just as easy to use as ordinary watercolours, but dry with a lovely twinkle.
The rest of the background is just some stamping and the rest was a matter of digging through my orange embellies.

I didn't have a lot of flowers in the right shade either, so they got a colour change with Twinkling H2Os too. Paper flowers tend to go flat when they are wet and you can avoid that by drying them with a heat gun and give them a few squeezes while drying.

I love the cursive word stickers, but the one I wanted to use was the wrong colour. Here is a cool way to cheat your way to the perfect title! You will need:
♥ cursive word to copy
(also try handwriting or printing out a word in a cool font)
♥ acetate
♥ Liquid Pearls

Place the acetate over the word and trace it with the Liquid Pearls. Even pressure is the key. I squeezed quite hard. If you mess up, wipe it up with a baby wipe and try again.

Then just let it dry and cut around the word. Since acetate is see-through, you don't have to go too close to the letters, just cut an even border all around it. I've learned that round lines are a lot less noticeable than sharp corners, so keep your cutting lines curvy.

Now attach it with some tiny dots of glue here and there and you're done.

Shine Bright

Now here's a collection I absolutely love! It's Kaisercraft's new Shine Bright collection, featuring yellow, black, white and grey. My home town's soccer colours! Well, let's not go there.
Anyway, these papers are perfect for both boys and girls. Black and white photos look especially nice with those striking colours.

"Amazing Lashes"

(Yes, Leah is blessed with amazing lashes that can make Maybelline cry)
I painted some watercolour from Leah's paint box (nothing fancy here) on white cardstock and while that was drying, cut out circles from theSunbeam paper. Once it was dry, I trimmed it down to 10.5 x 10.5" (26.5cm) and matted it on the Sunflower paper (I always cheat and cut out a hole from the paper behind so I can use it again). Then I drew a 9" (23cm) circle with my compass and stitched it in grey.

Cap it yellow is s cute bottlecap embellishment that is also available in other colours, for both boys and girls. See them all here. I teamed it with a cherry blossom and a star flower.

For the those glass buttons I glued some glass cabochons on the Bright Side paper with Glossy Accents (or Dimensional Magic) and cut them out. They look so cute, and whatever picture you glue behind, it will look larger and brighter! You totally need cabochons in all sorts of sizes, but the ones I used are 8mm, 14mm and 18mm big.

Leah is 9, and the soccer shirt charm had a number 9 on the back, so that had to go on as well.

"There is a boy"
Now to prove to you how well this collection goes with teen boys!

For the background I cut 7" (18cm) including the barcode (!) off theCanary paper, flipped the shorter piece over and glued it under the barcode. Easy as and a great way to do a 3 pattern background in 1 step.
Add a few pieces from the collectables pack (that one is soooo lush), a piece of ric rac (which is half price and such an easy way to add some texture and pattern).

The black felt frame felt a little too strong to me (if you know me, you know that I don't really like framing photos in black, but I do love the felt frames). I added some lemondrop twine and licorice twist sugar beads, stuck on with plenty of Glossy Accents.

I told you about the bottlecaps, here is one for boys - the Cap it black, teamed up with a ship's steering wheel charm.

And up in the corner you'll find a date pin with a giant black rhinestone dot. How can you not love them!

"Cake Monster"
And then there is my cute little nephew on a sugar high...

Here I used the Golden paper (yellow and zebra stripes) withMango (chevrons) and Bumblebee (grey), plus one barcode strip. The black tag is one of many cool ones on the Buttercup paper.
The rays were done with texture paste and a template, then sprinkled with gold embossing powder and heated. All those cool silver circles are from some fabric I found at Spotlight.

The journalling is inside a metal tag holder.

So, there you are - 3 layouts done in no time with this absolutely cool, awesome and happy Shine Bright collection!
Cheers,

Yeah!

Teenage boys aren't that hard to scrap. I scraped some Ferro medium through a stencil and it turned into a pretty cool background. (Cleaning the stencil was a bit of a task, so don't wait up, clean it immediately!)

I dug through my stash for some boy-related embellies and I really like the way it's turned out.

Oops I've spilled my tea!

How to make a pretty mess:

Make yourself a cuppa, drink most of it and leave the tea bag in the rest for about 20 min - Now you've got the perfect watercolour paint! Spill a bit on your background paper (the messier the better) and put it in the sunshine to dry. Background done!

If you would like to create this page, using some very pretty papers and lace (also dyed with tea), then come along to TJ's Scrappin' With Style on Monday, 16-02-15 at 9:30. Cost is $25 and includes all materials. See you there!

Happy You

It's a bit rugged and it's a bit pretty - that's next week's class layout at Scrapulous!

A fuzzy white felt frame from my2angels gives it some texture and if you've only got boys, you'll be happy to know that we also have cool black frames available! You can replace the flowers with leaves and pinecones for an ultra-manly look and even better, we can make those in class. Everybody else can go to town with flowers!

Once upon the time they were all the rage in scrapbooking and now they're lingering in jars and drawers...unloved...unused. I'm talking about flat paper flowers. If you've got them, bring them because I will show you how to pretty them up (see left flower):

If you have been coming to my classes for years, you'll remember this little swirly heart, I think it was in 2007. Time to do it again! It's made from texture paste and quite easy to do (other shapes are possible too):

So, if you want to join me, here's the class info:

When: Tue 10am, Thur 6pm, Fri 9:30am
Where: Scrapulous, 60 Bryants Rd, Shailer Park
Cost: $20 plus $2 per felt frame, BYO paper & flowers

Discover, explore - a boy's layout

Here's one for the boys again, featuring ,splashes, paint. cogs, stamping, crackle paint, mesh and a little pin wheel. All good fun and not strictly boys only.

The photo was printed once as is and once zoomed in. I used both for a fun layered effect.

The clear crackle looks great in real life, but is a little hard to capture in a photo:

We will make this cute paper covered button too and the wooden heart button and big dots are included in the class:

Would you like to join me in class?
I am now teaching from our studio, Scrapulous.
Where: 60 Bryants Rd, Shailer Park QLD

Felt frame birthday card

It's Tracy's and my birthday (yes, we're twins) and I made her a happy birthday card using lots of her my2angels goodies!

It all started out with a black felt frame. I covered it with pink felt ribbon (it's on sale!) and trimmed it off at the edges of the black frame. This makes the big frame a little subtler.
Using some Twinkling H2Os I coloured a piece of white cardstock (you can also use water colours or Gelatos) and did some stamping to darken the edges.

The bottom corners were decorated with 2 filigree corners. I inked them with Versamark ink and heat embossed them in white to match the card.

The filigree butterfly got the same treatment. I used fine embossing powder and only did one coat of embossing to retain the details in the metal.
Now it was just a matter of adding lots of pink and silver embellies.

 I used:
- star flowers (cut apart to go further)
- large button (see a big range of buttons here)
- roses
- a pin (see lots of designs here)

To finish off the card I glued the decorated frame on a folded piece of black cardstock and cut around the outside (leave some of the folded line uncut). I felt a rectangular card would have messed with the groovy shape of the felt frame.

I hope Tracy likes it!

A nautical layout with secret photo storage

If you've been to the beach, on a cruise or a fishing trip lately, you'll have a heap of photos and / or memorabilia to scrap and they might not all be album quality. How can you still include them? A secret pocket is the answer! It holds up to 25 photos of 4x6" size or any memorabilia:

This class will be in a kit format and include everything you need.
It includes 3 sheets of double sided paper, 2 sheets of cardstock, a laser cut frame, flower, wooden anchor, charm and everything else you see:

(cost for class & kit = $30)

From this week I'll be teaching at our new studio, which we'll call

Scrapulous!

Find us on 60 Bryants Rd, Shailer Park, Queensland

Class times are staying the same:
Tuesday 10am
Thursday 6pm
Friday 9:30am

Not really another Christmas layout

Do you still have lots of Christmas photos to scrap or are you over it? I still have my tree and decorations up and don't mind Christmas dragging on till the end of January, but if you're over it, then this class layout doesn't have to be a Christmas one!

Greg sorted out an old pair of jeans and we're up-cycling them into some cool denim stars:

There is space for 3 photos and the upside down tulips look cute as a border:

These photos are a bit out of focus, but I decided they needed to be scrapped anyway. I can't believe it's been 11 years since these were taken! Joel is half a head taller than me now and still growing.

Aussie Christmas

If you're dreaming of a white Christmas in the Aussie heat, you will agree that both are very nice. And why not combine them? My layout combines snowflakes, holly, white trees and a beach photo. Because I can! Wanna join me for my first class of 2015?

We're making some pretty flowers:

Glitter on the trees:

 Embossed snowflakes on vellum:

And resist, stamping and masking on the background. It all starts out with a white piece of cardstock!

We spent Christmas 2014 at the beach again, but I haven't got any photos printed out yet. It doesn't matter if you scrap a hot or cold Christmas photo, this layout suits both!

I based it on this sketch, which I found on Pinterest here. Unfortunately there was no link to the person who created it:
